working with the idea of the intermediate between the inside and outside of the body and representing this in materials

the linking to my interest of the womb and the container being the ‘sac’ which can participate in being on the inside and the outside within the relationship of mother and child

the inflatable is the important part of the work with the idea I’m taking a non bodily material and using it as a ‘skin’ to create the silhouette of a body

no specific reason for the dolphins, its about the material and the subject matter as a being rather than an object

the reason for three – looking at the contrasts between the dolphins in terms of the effect the inflatable has as a mould/’skin’. i wanted the wrinkles and creases of the inflatable to show clearly on the dolphin and having more than one creates a clearer comparison

reasoning for the blue plastic bags – similar to the use of an inflatable, the bag has ‘sac’ like qualities and as well as i wanted the dolphins to appear ironic and comical, it could be seen as them coming out of the bag/sac and being sat on it

in terms of the space, i wanted the dolphins to be on the floor, again in a metaphorical but comical realistic representation of them (swimming) but because of the size they needed a material to be shown with or exhibited on.
